How long have you been knitting/crocheting with the WCOBBS?
Since July 2008
What made you want to get involved with the WCOBBS?
Before joining, I had only met one person that had needed the NICU. I went to high school with her and when she noticed my knitting on Facebook, she talked about her experience in the NICU with her babies and how meaningful it was to them to have something come home with them as a souvenir. So, here I am, knitting away. :)
What Blankets Have you Worked on?
Snips and Snails, Prince Charming, Farley, Rapunzel
What is your favorite WCOBBS blanket?
Snips and Snails because it was my first and it just felt so GOOD to get it in the mail, complete a portion of the blanket, then send it off to the next person. The first time got me addicted. :)
What is your favorite thing to knit/crochet?
Socks and hats although I’m working my way into the baby patterns…
What project are you the most proud of?
I made a cardigan for my 6 yo niece. It was my first big project and I finished it on time and it FIT her and she loved it! All miracles in my mind.
What else would you like to share with the WCOBBS and our supporters??
It amazes me how a small 6 inches on a baby blanket could lead to so much fun for knitters and comfort for parents and children. It doesn’t take much to affect the world in a positive way and I love that this group exists so I can help spread some love.
Here are some photos of Gypsyhick's beautiful work!!

What made you want to get involved with the WCOBBS?
I love doing baby blankets, especially for families that need a little ray of light in an otherwise very dark time of their lives. I was a member of the eastern Canada branch of the Oddball Baby Blanket Knit-a-long, which is all over the world (check out some of the blogs we that are linked to the right). The group grew too big and needed to split into eastern/western Canada. I took over the Western half and the rest is history, as they say.

What Blankets Have you Worked on?
I guess you could technically say them all, to a point, as I coordinate all of the blankets and also tend to be the one finishing them with edging and blocking.
If you only count sections though, I have worked on Sugar and Spice, Snips and Snails, Mary had a Little Lamb, Little Boy Blue, Rock-a-Bye, Peter Rabbit, Farley, Flutterby and Goodnight Moon.
What is your favorite WCOBBS blanket?
It really is a tie.
I really love Sugar and Spice, because it was our very first blanket given to a sick munchkin. Usually we don’t know who the blankets go to, because the hospital gives them to the infants, but we were approached by members of the Calgary Police Service requesting a blanket for one little girl who was, and still is, very sick. That one holds a very special place in my heart. Please take a moment to send a little strength to her.
The second is Flutterby. I think that the thought put into that blanket by all the knitters involved was amazing and it shows in the final blanket. That is what we really are all about, taking the time out of our day to think about someone we don’t know and make something especially for them.

What is your favorite thing to knit/crochet?
Yarn….. ok ha ha. I don’t have one specific favorite thing to knit or crochet. I am the type of knitter that (GASP!) usually finishes a project before starting a new one and I am usually up for something different when that happens. I like shawls, socks, kids clothing, slippers, bags, scarves…. My queue is full of all kinds of different projects.
What project are you the most proud of?
I think that would have to be my Wool Peddlers Shawl. I handspun the yarn from Alpaca and Raw Clun Forest Wool. I think it turned out really well.

What else would you like to share with the WCOBBS and our supporters?
Thank you very very much. Some of you support us with your time and skills, some with donations and some emotionally. All are very much appreciated. We are only a year old and we have grown by leaps and bounds because of all of you. This growth only means that we can make more and more blankets for the Foothills NICU. I can’t wait for the next delivery!

How long have you been knitting/crocheting with the WCOBBS?
Hmm, I think I started in February, 2009
What made you want to get involved with the WCOBBS?
I just came across it cruising through Ravelry and thought–aha, I’d like to do that! I knew I had the skills and would be able to have lots to contribute.
What Blankets Have you Worked on?
The Nightingale, Winnie the Pooh ‘Bear of Very Little Brain’, Harvey, Little Bo Peep, Pooh and Friends, and Starlight/Starbright
I believe was my first in March this year.
I believe was my first in March this year.
What is your favorite WCOBBS blanket?
Hmm, I think for good looks I’m liking the cable one currently circulating called ‘Rapunzel’ and I’m kind of partial to my own ‘Winnie the Pooh’….but everyone is so unique. That’s what really surprised me is how individual they all look!
What is your favorite thing to knit/crochet?
Just started crocheting 3 weeks ago and have just loved making afghan squares. Otherwise knit anything….socks, hats, sweaters. My favourite all-time technique is anything involving cables, particularly Fisherman and Aran style sweaters.
What project are you the most proud of?
This year or years gone by? Quilting is my first passion, but knitwise, I’d have to say my husband’s Fisherman Knit sweater.
What else would you like to share with the WCOBBS and our supporters??
This is a wonderful cause and everyone who donates time and talent into producing these loving bits of warmth deserves a round of applause. It truly is a rewarding thing to do!!

Knitter of the Week!!!! (8-24-09)
So, in an effort to showcase not only out blankets, but also our knitters and crocheters, we are going to have a Knitter/Crocheter of the Week!!!
Without further ado...our very first Knitter of the Week is...
Mickey1

How long have you been knitting/crocheting with the WCOBBS?
Since January 2009
What made you want to get involved with the WCOBBS?
Friend (Dangles) kept mentioning it and I finally joined. Also being a recipient of knitted goodies at the hospital when my first son was born, I thought this was a good group to join to return the favour :)
What Blankets Have you Worked on?
Pied Piper, Luongo, Fin and Just Beachy
What is your favorite WCOBBS blanket?
All the blankets are so nice it is hard to pick. Being that Just Beachy was my idea and the first blanket I started, I am really liking how it is coming along. I would have to say it is my favourite so far.
What is your favorite thing to knit/crochet?
I am just getting back into knitting after not doing it for many years. So far I have only knit a few simple things like afghans, dish cloths, scarves and OBB blankets. It is fun working on the OBB blankets as I get to try out new stitches.
What project are you the most proud of?
I am proud of all my projects but I think the OBB blankets give me the most pleasure. Both my sons see me knitting these blankets and now both of them would like me to knit them each an afghan.
I have totally enjoyed being a part of this group and the members are all wonderful. Keep up the good work everyone!!
